Before you begin

Create or open a book entry with a variation. Editing requires access to that book. For team playbook variations, prepare the unit’s personnel groups and their formations first.

Steps

  1. Open a variation from its book entry. The editor opens in the page. Use Formation to choose a personnel group and one of its formations, then select Use formation to add its players. Save any diagram changes before changing formation; review the confirmation if replacing players would remove routes.

  2. Click or tap players to add them to a group selection. Click or tap a selected player again to remove it. Double-click or double-tap a player to select only that player and edit or draw its route. Drag players and zones directly in the diagram to position them.

  3. Use the selected player's editing controls for labels, colors, and shading. Player size, outline width/type, and transparency are fixed. Zone appearance controls include transparency and outline type; default and transparent fill choices are inside the fill color selector.

  4. Use the drawing tools for zones and equipment. The active tool's options appear inside the bottom of the diagram. Keep alternate looks in separately named variations.

  5. Select Save diagram, return to the book, and reopen the variation to verify the result. Preview print output when you need a handout.

What to expect

The saved variation contains the diagram you can revisit and teach from.

Troubleshooting

If the formation picker is unavailable, save the current diagram first and check your editing access. If a formation is missing, check the selected personnel group and team unit. Confirm the active book, concept, and variation before editing.

Editor setup and controls

Use Concepts in the top toolbar to open the book navigation drawer. Formation opens the personnel and formation picker directly.

On desktop, right-drag or middle-drag to pan and use the mouse wheel to zoom. On mobile web, use two fingers to pan and pinch to zoom in or out. Player selection remains available while pan or drawing tools are active.

Zoom and fit controls sit at the bottom-right of the diagram. Undo and redo are icon buttons at the top-right. On web, use Command-Z or Control-Z to undo and Command-Shift-Z or Control-Shift-Z to redo.
